Wellbeing Area
Student Council 25/26
The Student Council have been busy working on the following projects for the current school year:
Improve Polytunnel/Gardening Club
We have been working hard on improving our polytunnel, outdoor classroom and wellbeing area. We surveyed our polytunnel and found it needed repair and weeding. We visited our neighbour Vincent Rooney to view his polytunnel and get some advice on planting. Vincent gave up his time to dig and loosen the soil so our plants would grow better.
New Outdoor Raised Beds
We are helping to prepare our new outdoor raised beds which were made by Mike, PJ. & Eamon from the R.S.S. We are very excited about our planting plans . We have gathered names to start a lunchtime Gardening Club which will run on Mondays from January onwards to help maintain the polytunnel area.
Solar Powered Bird Nesting Box
At our monthly school assembly we shared information about the new solar powered bird box that we have installed on school grounds. We hope to see up close how birds build their nest and rear their chicks. We have placed bird feeders around our school grounds too and observed Robins and Bluetits feeding there daily.
Outdoor Classroom Seating
Mr. Monaghan organised the delivery of some ESB cable reels that we have put to use as outdoor tables. Four new picnic benches have been delivered to extend our outdoor classroom.
Battery Collection
We ran a successful used battery collection starting before Christmas. We have saved over 100 Kg of batteries from landfill so far this year.
Educational Sustainability Grant
Our school was fortunate to receive €2,500 through the Educational Sustainability Grant at the start of the school year. This money has been used to extend the seating in our outdoor classroom, install the solar powered bird box and to extend our school garden with raised beds. We can't wait to get planting and we hope to hold a plant sale in the last term.

Previous Projects
Survey to recognise Diversity within our School
The Student Council carried out a school-wide survey to highlight and celebrate the diversity of our school community. The results reflect a vibrant and multicultural environment, with students representing a wide range of cultural backgrounds, languages, and traditions. This initiative aimed to promote inclusion, raise awareness of our shared diversity, and ensure that every student feels seen and valued. By showcasing the rich variety within our school, we continue to foster a welcoming atmosphere where differences are respected and celebrated.
Anti-Bullying/Friendship Week
The Student Council organised an Anti-Bullying and Friendship Week to promote kindness, respect, and inclusion throughout our school community. The week was filled with engaging activities and initiatives that encouraged students to reflect on the importance of standing up against bullying and supporting one another. The initiative highlighted the value of empathy, teamwork, and creating a safe environment where everyone feels respected and included. This week was a great success and reinforced our school’s commitment to fostering a caring, supportive, and friendly atmosphere for all.
