Coldwood N.S. is a Cathoilc Primary School in the parish of Athenry, Co. Galway. We are located on the old Galway-Dublin road between the villages of Oranmore & Craughwell. The school is under the patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam.
We are a co-educational primary school of 99 pupils with 4 mainstream classes, 6 teachers, 2 Special Needs Assistants and a full time secretary. We are a welcoming, supportive school that fosters the holistic development of all our pupils enabling them to reach their true potential.
Coldwood N.S. has very strong links to both Craughwell GAA & Athenry GAA but we also welcome other sporting initiatives and activities for the pupils of our school including gymnastics, rugby, basketball and soccer to name some.
Our school colours are blue and gold. These colours originate from when Mr. Tom Coffey was Principal of Coldwood N.S. when he got a set of blue and gold jerseys from Cussane Hurling Club for the school team to use. Since then we have adopted these colours as our own!
Health and well-being is promoted through the provision of a wide range of sports and physical activities. All pupils are encouraged to experience and participate in a variety of curriculum based activities throughout the year. Coaching is provided by teachers and external coaches in hurling, camogie, swimming, gymnastics, basketball and Gaelic football.
We have our own outdoor classroom and well-being area. Here we have a polytunnel, raised beds, picnic benches & chalk board area.
Class begins at 9.20am. Infants finish at 2pm and 1st to 6th Class at 3pm.
