Coldwood N.S. has a proud sporting history. We offer a diverse range of activities that cater to every student.
We are fortunate to have extensive playing pitches, a basketball court and a running track to the rear of our school along with a large indoor hall. We enter Mini 7s, Cuman na mBunscol and local parish blitzes in camogie, hurling and Gaelic football along with the FAI Primary 5s soccer and the cross country athletics competitions on an annual basis.
Here is what is happening on our pitches, track and court this year:
Camogie & Hurling
Our pupils can partake in lunchtime camogie and hurling training weekly. We have a visiting Club Development Officer from neighbouring Athenry and Craughwell GAA Clubs assisted by TY students every Thursday.
Gaelic Football
Lunchtime training for both girls and boys in Gaelic football welcoming players of all abilities.
Athletics:
Children have ample space on our track to practise their athletic skills. We enter the Cross Country Running competition and our local Christy Kennedy Athletics Competition along with running our own children's race in our annual Coldwood 4 Mile Run each January.
Swimming lessons for 3rd-6th class
Gymnastics for all classes
Irish dancing
We avail of visiting coaches for basketball, rugby and soccer from time to time during the year.
We run a Sports Day annually and we love to welcome back our successful past pupils to talk about their achievements.
Why We Play
Sport helps our pupils:
Build Confidence: Finding success on the field translates to confidence in the classroom.
Promote Wellbeing: Regular physical activity is essential for mental health and stress management.
Foster Community: Sport brings students together, creating a unified school spirit.
We encourage every student to get involved and try something new.
